Criminal Law
Prior to her career at the Bar Sharon was a broadcast journalist from 1992 to 2003 . She worked as a reporter and presenter in radio and television news and current affairs, including four years as a news presenter at ITN. She studied for her honours law degree and qualified for the Bar whilst working full-time as a news presenter/reporter.
Sharon defends and prosecutes in the Crown Court, Youth Court and Magistrates’ Court.
She has acted in a wide range of matters including offences relating to drugs, firearms, offensive weapons, burglary, robbery, criminal damage, assault, domestic violence and motoring.
She has a particular interest in representing the most vulnerable members of society, including youths and those who suffer with learning difficulties and who have mental health issues. She is currently instructed to appear for the defence in two Crown Court trials.
Whilst still a pupil she prosecuted many trials and trial lists in the Magistrates’ Court. One notable case was the successful prosecution of a landowner accused of assaulting an anti-hunt protestor on public land. The trial attracted considerable media attention and was the lead story on the regional evening television news programmes.
Family Law
Sharon has also undertaken family law work in the County Court and has experience in matters involving injunctions, child contact and parental responsibility.
